Flags are tools of expression. It is most commonly used to express national or organizational pride. In the field of marketing, flags are viewed as important advertising tools. Flags come in various forms and sizes. The activity of flying flags is known as flagging. There are basic information you must know about flagging.

Some places require individuals or groups to meet requirements and have permits before flying a flag. This is mainly due to the fact that improper setup of a flag can lead to accidents or injuries. A flag that touches a live wire can cause the electrocute anyone unfortunate to touch the pole below. Another reason is to maintain the aesthetics of an area. Some flags are too big or have very poor design and can affect the appearance of certain locations. There are also laws that punishes those who disrespectfully display nation flags.

Size is a serious consideration when flying a flag. Bigger flags catches more wind. The forces from high-speed winds can be very damaging to the flag fabric. This means that as the size of the flag increases, it is also more prone to damage.

Speaking of fabrics, flags come in different kinds of material. The most commonly used fabrics for flags are cotton, nylon and polyester. Each one of these materials have advantages and disadvantages. Some are more resistant to moisture or wind while others are able to retain their color despite prolonged exposure to sun.
